Self care, don’t forget it.

This week was a down week. I felt fully fatigued, mentally, physically and emotionally, i had nothing to give and no capacity to receive. I was in a positive headspace, but couldn’t think clearly, I would read the pages of my study and I’d need to read it again, still not sinking in, nothing I could do to make my brain respond. I would go to exercise and find myself laying on the couch, I was exhausted. What was going on?

Sometimes we forget to look after ourselves and we run ourselves to the ground. Like driving a car on empty, you only get so far before *putt putt putt* and the engine is out, leaving us stranded on the side of the road begging for someone to come and pull over to move us off the road and help get us back on our feet… Well I was at the point just before the engine was ready to give up, I was driving on empty and instead of driving until my body stopped, I listened to what I needed. I thought, ok study is too much right now, work is too much right now, exercise is too much right now, what so I need ???

What I needed, was rest. Plain old rest, sleepy sleep time, and chilling on the couch, no work, no class, no exercise and no friends! My body was telling me to respect its concerns and just take a break. Usually I would keep going until complete burn out but instead I took a couple days of work, meditated, had a bath daily, ate the food I wanted and just was a couch potato. It was time to prioritise self care, my God it felt good.

I came out of it feeling refreshed, ready to take my life back in the driver’s seat and get on with business. I am so glad I prioritised what I needed and didnt burn the candle at both ends.

Sometimes we need to respect what our bodies need, slow down and be ok with doing nothing. Take the time for self care, it can be whatever you consider self care.

So I challenge you this week to set yourself a selfcare routine, something you can do for you daily that just helps you settle and relax, take a bath, enjoy a nap or a walk. Whatever it is, do it , do it for you and listen to your body before it forces you into rest, by being sick… love and respect your body, it does so much for you. Give back !!!

Enjoy yourself, do what you gotta, but also take time to do nothing .

With love ❤️
